Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of The New Old Church based upon the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
(Deu. 6:4, Gen. 1:26, Matt. 3:16,17, Matt. 28:19, Heb. 13:8)
(Deu. 6:4, Gen. 1:26, Matt. 3:16,17, Matt. 28:19, Heb. 13:8)
Revelation
God has revealed Himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God, the holy scriptures, and through all of creation itself.
(John 1:1,14, John 8:58, Isa. 9:6)
(John 1:1,14, John 8:58, Isa. 9:6)
Mankind
Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.
(Gen. 1:27, 28)
(Gen. 1:27, 28)
The Fall
When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.
(Gen. 3:14-17, Isa. 59:2, Rom. 3:23)
(Gen. 3:14-17, Isa. 59:2, Rom. 3:23)
Salvation
Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions. God raised Him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. That is why salvation can be found in Christ alone.
(John 3:17, Luke 24:6, Eph. 2:8, John 3:16, John 3:3-6)
(John 3:17, Luke 24:6, Eph. 2:8, John 3:16, John 3:3-6)
The Scriptures
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, the product of holy men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
(II Tim. 3:16, I Thess. 2:13, II Pet. 1:21)
(II Tim. 3:16, I Thess. 2:13, II Pet. 1:21)
The Church
The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
(Matt. 16:18, Eph. 1:22, I Cor. 12:27,28, I Cor. 10:24,25)
(Matt. 16:18, Eph. 1:22, I Cor. 12:27,28, I Cor. 10:24,25)
Baptism in the Holy Ghost
The Baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all believers in this dispensation and is received subsequent to the new birth. This experience is accompanied by the initial evidence of the speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives the utterance.
(Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 2:28, 39, Acts 19:6)
(Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 2:28, 39, Acts 19:6)
Water Baptism
Baptism in water by immersion is a direct commandment of our Lord, and is for all believers. The ordinance is a symbol of the Christian's identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.
(Matt. 28:19, Rom. 6:4, Col. 2:12)
(Matt. 28:19, Rom. 6:4, Col. 2:12)
Sanctification
The Bible teaches that without holiness, no man can see the Lord. We believe in the Doctrine of Sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of regeneration and continuing until the consummation of salvation.
(Heb. 12:14, I Thess. 5:23, II Pet. 3:18)
(Heb. 12:14, I Thess. 5:23, II Pet. 3:18)
Divine Healing
Healing is for the physical ills of the human body and is wrought by the power of God through the prayer of faith, and by the laying on of hands. It is provided for in the atonement of Christ and is the privilege of every member of the church today.
(Mark 16:18, James 5:14,15, Isa. 54:4,5, I Pet. 2:24)
(Mark 16:18, James 5:14,15, Isa. 54:4,5, I Pet. 2:24)
Resurrection and the Return of the Lord
Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead and to usher in the fullness of God's kingdom on earth.
(Acts 1:11, 10:42, I Thess. 4:16,17)
(Acts 1:11, 10:42, I Thess. 4:16,17)
Heaven
We believe heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All whose names are recorded in the Lamb's Book of Life will be accepted into heaven.
(Matt. 25:34, II Cor. 5:1, Heb. 11:16, I Pet. 1:3,4, Rev. 3:5, Rev. 21:27)
(Matt. 25:34, II Cor. 5:1, Heb. 11:16, I Pet. 1:3,4, Rev. 3:5, Rev. 21:27)
Hell and Eternal Retribution
The one who physically dies in his sins without Christ is hopelessly and eternally lost in the Lake of Fire, and therefore has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel or repenting. The Lake of Fire is literal. The terms "eternal" and "ever-lasting" used in describing the duration of the punishment of the damned in the Lake of Fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless existence as used in denoting the duration of joy and ecstasy of saints in the presence of God in heaven.
